What an Angelic Kitty!

Image: Cat with “wings”  Sorry I have been away so long.  I am still working on genealogy stuff.  Right now, I feel like that Sixth Sense kid, “I see dead people.”  But I thought I would stop in to update the blog.  Not feeling like writing anything heavy about politics.   Enjoy this little story about a cute kitty that has grown wings.

Do Republicans Think Voters Have the Minds of Elementary Kids?

I just watched this video on Republicans take on energy.

GOP pushes for energy independence

May 23: Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., discusses America’s dependence on foreign oil and argues that there is ‘enough oil shale in the Rocky Mountain West alone to power America for the next hundred years.’

Senator John Barrasso (R) (Wyoming) is talking about drilling domestically. I agree with that. But here is my problem. He is talking into the camera with a patronizing tone. Reminds me of those 16 milimeter films that the teacher used to play on fun Fridays when I was in first grade. Look, I don’t give a rats ass about stupid political parties. I just care about who has the right answers and vote for them. If Republicans want to get their messages through, they need to discard patronizing tones. Grown-up adults ignore tones that sound like they are being talked to like little children. I thought Republicans learned their lesson after the Bobby Jindal Romper Room response to Barack Obama’s address to Congress a few months back. Look “Uncle Barrasso,” I agree with you but don’t treat me like I am stupid!  Golly gee boys and girls, if Republicans are going to play Sesame Street, at least use puppets to entertain us.

Prosecutor: Peterson tried to hire killer

Facing “financial devastation” from his divorce with Kathleen Savio, Drew Peterson allegedly offered someone $25,000 to kill his ex-wife in late 2003, just months before she was found drowned in a dry bathtub at her Bolingbrook home, Will County’s chief prosecutor said Friday.

State’s Atty. James Glasgow for the first time laid out part of his case against Peterson–who faces murder charges in Savio’s 2004 death–during a hearing Friday on a defense motion to reduce the former Bolingbrook sergeant’s $20 million bond. Judge Carla Alessio Policandriotes denied the bond request.

Doesn’t surprise me.  Normally I do not post on crime cases, or I will just make one post on it and let the readers follow it on their own.  But this seems to be a popular topic lately.  And I have never seen such a smarmy criminal in my life as Drew Peterson.  So yeah, I admit to being fascinated with this case.  I want to see him prosecuted for Kathleen Savio’s death.  I want authorities to find Stacy Peterson’s body.

Autopsy finds little on body found near homes of missing women

(CNN) — A preliminary autopsy Thursday did not reveal any identifying information on remains found on the bank of a river, less than 30 miles from the homes of two missing Illinois women.

Partial skeletal remains were found on the south bank of the Des Plaines River near Channahon, Illinois.

Partial skeletal remains were found on the south bank of the Des Plaines River near Channahon, Illinois.

The “partial skeletal remains” were found on the south bank of the Des Plaines River near Channahon, Illinois, according to Will County Coroner Patrick O’Neil’s office.

A statement issued by O’Neil’s office said a forensic examination was inconclusive as to identity, race or sex of the body parts, which consisted of a rib cage, spinal column and partial left and right femur bones.

A marine cleanup crew, which discovered the remains Wednesday, also found shreds of blue jeans and a small amount of money.

The Illinois State Police Forensic Crime Laboratory is expediting a DNA analysis, which will take at least two weeks, the statement said.

Illinois State Police were on the scene Thursday conducting additional searches, said spokesman Sgt. Tom Burek.

On Sunday, Michelle Williams found a blue barrel in Channahon, Illinois, along the river and called police.

more here

The article goes on to state that the area where the body was found is approx. 20 miles from where Drew and Stacy Peterson lived.  And is about 15 miles from where Lisa Stebic, another missing Illinois woman, was last seen.

I don’t know who this woman is.  I just hope and prey that authorities will eventually be able to make a positive id, so as to have at least a sembelance of closure for the families.  Even when they do figure out who the woman is, life will still never go back to “normal” for the family.  But at least it will be one step closer to finding and convicting whomever did this.

Just a side note, as to the woman who found the blue barrel, didn’t someone close to Drew Peterson mention something about dumping a blue barrel?

Children of Martin Luther King Jr. Squable Over Possible Movie

DreamWorks: King biopic requires unity from family

ATLANTA (AP) — DreamWorks still wants to make a movie about Martin Luther King Jr. “provided that there is unity” among his feuding children, the movie studio said Wednesday.

DreamWorks announced a deal this week with The King Estate for a major motion picture about the civil rights icon. Bernice King and Martin Luther King III immediately threatened legal action, saying they were not involved in negotiating it.

King’s son, Dexter, oversees the estate and signed off on the deal.

This seems money motivated. This is not why Martin Luther King Jr. marched on Selma, fought for Civil Rights and was assisinated in Memphis, so that his children could become rich.

Death of a relative does something to the living persons. Especially when the deceased person is famous. Instead of considering those who were fans; or in the case of MLK, admirers, the family cares more about the possible riches involved. And then no one wins. That is why there is no more Frank Sinatra pasta sauce. Sorry, I do not want to diminish the great works of Martin Luther King, but I do miss the Frank Sinatra pesto sauce. (Stage direction: Sarcasm) Thank you Frank Jr. and Nancy :P .

Texas prisons checking immigration status

HOUSTON — Officials say Texas’ prison system is the first in the country to start checking an inmate’s immigration history by running fingerprints through a new federal program.

As of Tuesday, all prisoners booked into the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s intake site in Huntsville will have their fingerprints checked with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s biometric system for any immigration record.

Any matches with the biometric system are reviewed and appropriate action is taken after a prisoner completes his sentence. Top priority is being given to illegal immigrants who have prior convictions of major drug offenses, murder, rape, robbery and kidnapping.

Eventually, all 24 Texas prison system intake sites across the state will have this capability.

Please Call Your Senator Now to Urge a “No” Vote on Dangerous “Hate Crimes” Bill

From a Coral Ridge Ministries email blast;

The U.S. Senate is scheduled to vote any day on a federal “hate crimes” bill that will pave the way for persecuting Christians and threatening our freedoms of religion, speech, and association. My late father, Dr. D. James Kennedy, and Coral Ridge Ministries have warned for many years against this threat to our way of life and our children’s freedom to live out their faith.

The Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act (S. 909) is the Senate version of a bill that passed the House in April. A cornerstone of the “gay” political agenda, it would raise “sexual orientation” to a legal status equivalent to that of real civil rights categories such as race or ethnicity, and it would introduce for the first time into federal law the radical concept of “gender identity.” Since “sexual orientation” is not clearly defined, it would afford special legal protections to pedophiles and other sexual deviants that ordinary Americans won’t get.

In addition, S. 909 would:

  • Put pressure on police and prosecutors to devote more time and money to some victims’ cases and not others.
  • Vastly expand the federal government’s power to intervene in criminal cases, whether local authorities want this or not.
  • Create a taxpayer-funded slush fund for “education” programs that lump conservative Christians among “hate groups.”
  • Have a chilling effect on free speech by making unpopular ideas a basis for harsher treatment in criminal proceedings.
  • Add a layer of law that is utterly unnecessary. There is no evidence that “hate crime” victims receive less justice. Everyone deserves equal treatment under the law—no more, no less.

Widely known homosexual activist Andrew Sullivan recently said this:

The real reason for hate crimes is not the defense of human beings from crime. There are already laws against that-and Matthew Shepard’s murderers were successfully prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law in a state with no hate crimes at the time. The real reason for the invention of hate crimes was a hard-left critique of conventional liberal justice and the emergence of special interest groups which need boutique legislation to raise funds for their large staffs and luxurious buildings.

Please call or email your senators now to voice opposition to this dangerous bill. The Senate switchboard is (202) 224-3121 or (202) 225-3121. To identify your senators and reach them directly by phone or email, click here and then choose your state near the top.

Here are three key points to tell your senators:

This bill:

Is an Assault on Liberty of Conscience. In free countries, criminal acts are punished—not beliefs or views. The proposed hate crimes bill would result in two convictions—one for the criminal act, and another for the beliefs or thoughts behind it. This is a road to “thought crime” tyranny that is unfolding already in Europe and Canada.

Is not needed. Every state legal code already protects men and women, whatever their “actual or perceived … sexual orientation,” against criminal assault. There is no hate-crime “epidemic” in America. The FBI reports that so-called hate crimes, which are difficult to identify because only God can know the human heart, are a tiny fraction of all crimes.

Puts Pastors At Risk For Prosecution. Anyone, including pastors, can be accused of creating a “climate of hate” that leads to violence, merely for speaking biblical truth. Under Pennsylvania’s hate crimes law, 11 Christians were arrested and jailed in 2004 merely for preaching the gospel at a Philadelphia homosexual street festival. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), a former judge, said that under this federal bill, clergymen and others could be charged with encouraging or inducing a “hate crime” if they preach against homosexuality.

Please call your senators now to respectfully request their position on this bill and to urge them to vote “No” on S. 909. Among other things, this bill is a giant step toward the criminalization of Christianity.

Sincerely in Christ,

P.S. Thank you for your friendship and support for Coral Ridge Ministries! To learn more about why hate crimes are dangerous, watch this six-minute Coral Ridge Hour video. For an in-depth look at the risks posed by hate crime laws, read Ten Truths About Hate Crime Laws.

FDA Needs a Life

Bob Barr justs cracks me up;

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) employs thousands of bureaucrats and spends billions of dollars annually in a supposed effort to ensure various food products, drugs and cosmetics are safe. However, like virtually every federal regulatory agency, the FDA has a pronounced tendency to take itself far too seriously, and to constantly overreach. It did this several years ago, for example, when it attempted to force a Georgia mother who had assembled a simple kit to afford parents a cheap and private way to test their children for illicit drug usage, to submit her home drug-testing kit to the FDA as a sophisticated “medical device” on par with a pacemaker heart device.

Well, those wild and crazy guys at FDA are at it again. Apparently some FDA regulator was pouring his kid or himself a bowl of Cheerios recently, and noticed that the box containing one of the most popular cereals of all time contained a claim that the product could help reduce cholesterol. Realizing that …

Give Carl Levin a Scolding

From a NumbersUSA email blast;

Scold your Congressman for Cosponsoring the AgJOBS Amnesty!

This new fax has been posted in your Action Buffet based on your answers to the Interest Survey.

You can find this fax by proceeding to
http://www.numbersusa.com/faxes?ID=11259

Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Rep. Howard Berman (both D-CA) have reintroduced the AgJOBS amnesty bill. Pro-illegal alien worker and big business groups have been attempting to pass this amnesty for several years and have not yet been successful. However, it is appalling that any Member of Congress would even suggest a mass amnesty when nearly 14 million Americans are out of work.

Please send a fax to your Member(s) of Congress who is cosponsoring this amnesty and urge him/her to rethink his/her support this anti-American worker amnesty!
Additional information about the AgJOBS amnesty:

The AgJOBS bill would require the Department of Homeland Security to grant an “emergency” Amnesty to more than 1.35 million illegal aliens, using an “emergency agricultural worker status.” In order to qualify for the Amnesty, illegal aliens would need to (based on the 2008 version):

  • show that they worked 863 hours or 150 work days or earned at least $7,000 in agricultural employment during the past four years,
  • file an Amnesty application through DHS or a “qualified designated entity” during an 18-month application period,
  • not be a known terrorist or convicted criminal,
  • and pay a fine of $250.

Once an illegal alien meets the minimum requirements, they can acquire legal status for their spouse and children, get a Social Security card, and become immune to future prosecution for Social Security fraud. In order to maintain their “emergency agricultural worker status,” former illegal aliens would have to complete 100 days of agricultural work each year for up to five years, allowing them to compete for American jobs the other 265 days per year. They would also be required to pay federal income taxes.

General Socialist Motors to Begin Rolling Down the (Dis)Assembly Line

I didn’t want to believe it. I was so in denial. Really, it can’t happen. Can it?

Automakers, Obama announce mileage, pollution plan

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama wants drivers to go farther on a gallon of gas and cause less damage to the environment — and be willing to pick up the tab.

Oh wow cool! Barack Obama is willing to pay the tab. What’s that you say? I read that wrong? Hmm…oh I see now. We the people peons are supposed to be “willing to pick up the tab.” Isn’t that an oxymoron. A person can’t be forced to be willing to do something. Oh that’s right we are mere serfs and peons. Forcing a person to be willing to pay for Barack’s emission standard is like if your cheapass attorney of an uncle invited you and your poor working class parents to some sort of restaurant that starts with Chez La (insert fancy French name here). You’ve drank all the fancy champagne, ate the ascar…oh whatever slimy snails, crepee keesh thingies, foiled goose and frambe. Well now you are all full. Guess what? Cheapass deep pocket uncle tells you and/or your parents that you have to be willing to pick up the tab. No, being willing to pick up the tab would be after cheapskate uncle invites you to dinner tell him that Chez wherever is rather expensive, and you don’t want uncle cheapskate to spend so much of his money. So how about going to Chiles or one of them places by the mall. And at the end of the dinner, wherever you end up going, you tell unkees that out of the goodness of your heart you choose to be willing to help pay the tab.

Oh, ya want more of the actual article. OK, here ya go.

Obama on Tuesday planned to announce the first-ever national emissions limits for cars and trucks, as well as require a 35.5 miles per gallon standard. Consumers should expect to pay an extra $1,300 per vehicle by the time the plan is complete in 2016, officials said.

The administration officials spoke on the condition of anonymity ahead of the formal announcement by Obama.

Yeah, this administration official probably spoke on “condition of anonymity” due to he was afraid of being stretched on the rack.

The plan also would effectively end a feud between automakers and statehouses over emission standards — with the states coming out on top but the automakers getting the single national standard they’ve been seeking and more time to make the changes.

I was unaware that automakers were desiring forced standards of any shape or size. Note to self, pay more attention.

Let’s skip the rest of the numeral mumbo jumbo and end with this;

Auto executives, including General Motors Corp. CEO Fritz Henderson, and executives from Ford Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp., Honda Motor Co., Daimler AG and others planned to attend the White House event. United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger also planned to attend, as did Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Drew Peterson is Officially a Sociopath

Still working on genealogy. I figure I sure keep this site uptodate with current events. Can’t get my mind out of Will County;

Drew Peterson pleads not guilty to murdering wife

After his plea, prosecutors asked that Judge Richard Schoenstedt be removed from Peterson’s case, citing “grounds of prejudice against the state.”

Former Bolingbrook, Ill., police officer Drew Peterson, rear, departs the Will AP – Former Bolingbrook, Ill., police officer Drew Peterson, rear, departs the Will County Courthouse in Joliet, …

CHICAGO – Former police officer Drew Peterson pleaded not guilty Monday to killing his third wife, whose death was reclassified as a homicide after the suburban officer’s fourth wife disappeared. Peterson, who has been jailed since May 7, was formally arraigned on first-degree murder charges in the 2004 slaying of Kathleen Savio.

A prosecution bid to change the judge in the proceeding stalled a defense plan to seek reduced bail for Peterson.

Peterson is accused of drowning Savio, who was found dead in a dry bathtub with a gash on the back of her head. Her death initially was ruled an accident. But after Peterson’s fourth wife, Stacy, disappeared in 2007, Savio’s body was exhumed and authorities reclassified her death as a homicide after an autopsy.

Peterson, 55, has denied any involvement in Savio’s death or Stacy Peterson’s disappearance.

After his plea, prosecutors asked that Judge Richard Schoenstedt be removed from Peterson’s case, citing “grounds of prejudice against the state.”

What is Illinois’  stance on the death penalty?  Can we just drown him in a dry bathtub?  But first, he needs to confess as to where Stacy Peterson is.  Maybe waterboard it out of him?

Does Flint have its Next William C. Durant?

OK, so the kid didn’t build the next horseless carriage or have plans to save General Motors, but hey he saw a problem and came up with a way to make life easier for people.  And that folks is the mark of good ol’ American ingenuity and know how.

Flint boy’s invention earns him a spot on national TV

by Beata Mostafavi | The Flint Journal

Saturday May 16, 2009, 12:00 PM

Thomas Beaubien, 10, of Flint is the inventor of “The Glove Light,” which has landed him a spot on the Bonnie Hunt show.

FLINT, Michigan — Thomas Beaubien’s bright idea has snagged him a spot on a national television talk show.

It all started when the 10-year-old got tired of holding a flashlight so that his dad could see while working on his car — so he designed The Glove Light.

And now Bonnie Hunt wants to hear all about it.

The actress-turned-talk-show-host has invited the St. John Vianney fifth-grader to California for a segment on young inventors. Thomas will tell Hunt about his invention — a glove with five fingertip LED lights that can be used to help anything from barbecue cooking to electrical work at night.

The show’s staff found the Flint boy after he showcased his idea at the Young Inventors Fair at Kettering University last week and was interviewed by different media.

This is totally awesome.  I just hope Obama doesn’t step in to burst his innocent little bubble, with silly regulations.  This country needs more Thomas Beaubiens.  I am rootin for this boy to start his own business.

Flint Michigan is First Stop for Pistons Care

A few months ago I had mentioned about the Pistons Care Telethon.  The Detroit Pistons held a telethon during their March 11 game in conjunction with the Feed the Children Organization to raise money to help Michigan families.  Flint Michigan was one of their first stops.

First Stop: Flint

by Ryan Pretzer

Through an overcast sky and drizzling rain, the Pistons organization tried to make life a little brighter for families in need Saturday morning, with the help of Rock Financial, Fathead and Orchards Children’s Services. The collaborative effort to distribute boxes of food and personal care items to roughly 400 families was the first of many to come in 2009, all made possible by the $450,000 pledged to the Pistons Care Telethon two months ago.

Rock Financial and Fathead sponsored the donation of two fully stocked semi-trailers, which they named “Fathead” and “Big Rock.” The sister companies were eager to bring one truck to Flint, the hometown of Fathead CEO Patrick McInnis.

“It’s a great feeling to come back home to Flint and lend a hand to those who could use some help getting through these tough economic times that are affecting everyone,” McInnis said. “I know I speak for all Rock Financial and Fathead team members in saying we are very proud to have been involved in helping so many families right here in Michigan.”
