Around the Web/What’s in the News and What Other Bloggers are Talking About
Here are a few things I found around the web.
h/t to American Truckers at War, who has a great new site redisign BTW, for revealing a story in Townhall about Big Corn and Ethanol Hoax.
One of the many mandates of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 calls for oil companies to increase the amount of ethanol mixed with gasoline. President Bush said, during his 2006 State of the Union address, “America is addicted to oil, which is often imported from unstable parts of the world.” Let’s look at some of the “wonders” of ethanol as a replacement for gasoline.
Ethanol contains water that distillation cannot remove. As such, it can cause major damage to automobile engines not specifically designed to burn ethanol. The water content of ethanol also risks pipeline corrosion and thus must be shipped by truck, rail car or barge. These shipping methods are far more expensive than pipelines. [more here]
Also at American Truckers at War has a great commentary on a city that wants to build a mote to keep illegals out.
When all else fails, go back to the basics. The invasion from our southern border is in full swing and nothing is being done to stop it. The “virtual fence”, we have been told, doesn’t work. So… let’’s dig a good old-fashioned moat! Don’t forget the ‘gators!

By DANNY HAKIM and DON VAN NATTA Jr.ALBANY — Federal prosecutors are investigating whether Gov. Eliot Spitzer used campaign funds in connection with his meetings with prostitutes, including payments for hotels or ground transportation, three people with knowledge of the investigation said.Prosecutors have asked the governor’s lawyers about the travel arrangements for three trips, including his Feb. 13 rendezvous with a prostitute at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington. Bolson on…has a great commentary about Harvard Professor Claims Clinton Ad a Racial Affront to Obama
Orlando Patterson is an esteemed historical and cultural sociologist at Harvard University, known for his renown work regarding issues of race in America and the world. Over the years, he has also written numerous interesting, in-depth, and award-winning books on slavery and the American “racial crisis.”
It is fair to say that Dr. Patterson is, in fact, driven by and immersed in these issues. In his own words, Dr. Patterson says that he has spent his life “studying the pictures and symbols of racism and slavery.” [more here]
McCain Must Appease both Hispanics and Conservatives on Immigration
By Bret SchultePosted March 14, 2008On the morning of June 5, 2007, in a packed firehouse in Gilford, N.H., Fergus Cullen watched Arizona Sen. John McCain getting “hammered on immigration” in a back and forth with locals angry over the influx of illegal workers. “They kept coming back to it again and again,” says Cullen, the state’s GOP chairman. To little effect, McCain defended his immigration bill that gave a path to citizenship to many of the country’s estimated 12 million illegals. [more here] [found via Immigration News Daily]
Sould We Boycott the 2008 Games Over Tibet?
If you were to believe what the Chinese Government is telling the international community, you would think that the Dalai Lama and his followers in Tibet were terrorists no different than al-Qaida or the barbaric Chechens. Of course, very few of us are naive enough to completely ignore the realities that have existed on the ground in Tibet since the Chinese military invasion in 1950.
Since the occupation and the exile of the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan people have frequently held peaceful protests against the Chinese people only to be utterly crushed by the brutal Communist Regime. The region, for reasons traditional, cultural, and geographical, is uniquely isolated from most of the rest of the world – so the protests are not typically seen or heard of by the western world which goes about its daily activities as though Tibet was just a hole on the globe. The Ramos and Compean Families Need Our Help
I’m sure that over the course of the past year, you’ve heard of the tragedy of Border Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean who were imprisoned by a psychotic prosecutor who actually provided immunity to an illegal immigrant who was smuggling large quantities of drugs over our southern border. Their case is now being heard by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, but it’s been 101 days since they’ve agreed to hear the case and they haven’t taken action on it. [more here]

Headteachers are unwilling to put up the posters for fear that they might offend some parents. The disclosure came in findings from the Department for Children, Schools and Families showing that 2,089 pupils were absent from school without explanation in 14 areas of England believed to have a high incidence of forced marriage. All You Need to Know About Michigan Redneck
I am a politically conservative chick who has a passion for politics, and The USA. I currently live in the Upper Peninsula. I grew up in the Flint, Michigan area. I am mainly a Fiscal Conservative. I am a blue collar worker who is eligible for many gubmint handouts. I refuse to sign up for these programs. I pay my bills according to which utility threatens to shut me off first. I struggle but I was raised that to get what I want and need, work for it.
Besides politics I am studying my Bohemian genealogy and whenever I have time, I try to pick up my grandpa’s guitar. To follow my genealogy search about the Reimel, Nelson, Kallis and Selinger families click www.michiganredneck.blogspot.com. My favorite music is Rockabilly and other popular genres from the 1950’s. I love to eat healthily. My favorite food is Central European; Czech, Polish and German. I love to eat pork, sauerkraut, potatoes/or dumplings washed down with beer. My favorite beer is Pabst Blue Ribbon. I love to sew. The main sewing machine I use is my grandma’s Domestic Deluxe 153 from 1951. Starting on Thanksgiving, I start playing Christmas music and make Christmas presents for friends, co-workers and family. I have a passion for decorating. My style is a mix of Andy Warhol meets Donna Reed. I try to add a little bit of all elements of the fifties in my cute little Yooper cottage. If you would like to know more about me, just ask!
