David Seville-Witch Doctor
Good morning! I didn’t add a Rockabilly song for last night or the previous night. So I thought I would add one early this morning. Let’s have a little fun. Consider it your peppy wake up call. If you do not want to read a bunch of historical mumbo jumbo, skip down to the video.
Do you remember “Alvin and the Chipmunks”? It’s the cartoon that American kids have been growing up to since the fifties. Do you remember the “dad” David? The David character was based on Ross Bagdasarin, Sr., AKA David Seville. He was a composer, musician and actor, according to Wikipedia. Obviously, he was most famous for his Chipmunks cartoons. But he did have a few hits, through writing for others and recording a few of his own songs. Probably the most famous song he recorded was Witch Doctor. I remember this song played on all the radio stations on Halloween when I was a kid. Also it got quite a bit of play on the oldies stations. My mom would sing along when it came on.
I found some interesting song titles that he wrote, on BlackCat Rockabilly. He wrote “Come on a My House” by Rosemary Clooney (George’s aunt). Two of Eddie Cochran’s hits that he wrote were “Sittin in the Balconey” and “Summertime Blues.” These are great songs. I will share them with you sometime.
The picture provided by BlackCat Rockabilly, he is quite handsome.
If he had pomaded his hair and put it in a pompadour he may could have given Elvis a run for his money. He would have had to write and perform more raw sounding Rockabilly style songs. But if this had happened, we would not have “Alvin and the Chipmunks.” So, I guess it worked out for the better.
Watch the video. Enjoy!
On the political spectrum for choosing this song, sometimes I just feel like some witchdoctor is messing with our national elections. Or maybe we need a witch doctor to wave a wand and fix our issues. Sometimes I just feel like throwing up my hands and say “Eww eee eww ah ah, ting tang, walla walla bing bang”!
