“In your guts, you know (s)he’s nuts” – Lyndon Johnson

Rocket 88 (Original Version) – Ike Turner/Jackie Brenston

No political comments. Just great music and a shout out to the great guys and gals who once built our great American Cars. This one is the original recording of Rocket 88 by Jackie Brentson.

At frame 2:17-2:19 you will see a NASCAR Rocket 88. I got to view this car when it was displayed at the RE Olds Museum in Lansing, Michigan, that was about the Summer of ‘99, I believe.

The model in the video is pin-up queen of the ’50’s Bettie Page. Anyone who has seen me in person would understand why I admire her more than some of these skinny-minnie models. Like Bettie, I am not overweight but I do have some junk in the trunk. And I am proud of that. It’s the gay fashion industry that has manipulated society into thinking women should have flat hips and butt. Ask ol’ dad and grandpa what 36-24-36 means.

I miss my grandpa’s old Delta 88. That was a thing of beauty. It was the last year Oldsmobile made the big stylish cars. I believe it would have been in 1985. I had the honor of driving it a few times. After my grandpa passed away my grandma kept it for if anyone in the family needed wheels while their’s was being worked on. This car is no longer with the family. Whoever has her now, as Bobby Vee would say “Take Good Care of My Baby.”

  1. Dating myself here: Back in the 1970s a friend and I took a big road trip in a hand-me-down he had received from his parents, a white 1965 Cadillac Sedan de Ville (I think). This was the biggest thing short of a limo, and it was a dandy. Rode and handled like a cabin cruiser, and big-block V-8 sucked gas, of course, but was worth it. :)

  2. Lucky Dog! Road trips, regardless of vehicle, is something that will surely be missed. No longer can the average person celebrate Spring Fever by hopping in the car to go on a road trip to nowhere. Not with the way gas prices are now.
