Johnny Cash and Peggy Lee – I’m A Woman
Early this morning I was reminded that I needed to order a belt for my Kenmore 158.1914, on ebay. So I interupted my dress making to take apart the machine to get the belt. Had to take off three panels to get to the motor pully and pathway for the belt. After I got the machine back together I decided to tackle my Kenmore 158.1754. That’s my sewing machine that sews backwards. I got her to sew forward. I felt so proud of myself, I tried to work on getting her to sew with the cams. To keep up the sanity of taking everything apart and sticking my hands in the machines I started singing the Peggy Lee hit “I’m A Woman.” So of course this is tonite’s Rockabilly After Midnite selection. After all, I can fry up the bacon and eggs, blog about the news, sew cute outfits and fix sewing machines, “cause I’m a woman. W-O-M-A-N.”
I really like this song. It’s not like that Helen Reddy hear me roar crap. It is old school female. Like our pioneer ancestors. A real woman knows how to stay feminine while not being some little fragile sissy. She knows how to take care of her man without being like Cleopatra sitting on the fainting couch expecting everyone to do everything for her, because she might break a nail. Boo-hoo.
I really admire Johnny Cash’s performance in this song. Praising the work a woman does for her man and telling the men in the audience that they need to appreciate what their women do for them.
