Children of Martin Luther King Jr. Squable Over Possible Movie

DreamWorks: King biopic requires unity from family

ATLANTA (AP) — DreamWorks still wants to make a movie about Martin Luther King Jr. “provided that there is unity” among his feuding children, the movie studio said Wednesday.

DreamWorks announced a deal this week with The King Estate for a major motion picture about the civil rights icon. Bernice King and Martin Luther King III immediately threatened legal action, saying they were not involved in negotiating it.

King’s son, Dexter, oversees the estate and signed off on the deal.

This seems money motivated. This is not why Martin Luther King Jr. marched on Selma, fought for Civil Rights and was assisinated in Memphis, so that his children could become rich.

Death of a relative does something to the living persons. Especially when the deceased person is famous. Instead of considering those who were fans; or in the case of MLK, admirers, the family cares more about the possible riches involved. And then no one wins. That is why there is no more Frank Sinatra pasta sauce. Sorry, I do not want to diminish the great works of Martin Luther King, but I do miss the Frank Sinatra pesto sauce. (Stage direction: Sarcasm) Thank you Frank Jr. and Nancy :P .

  1. To be fair and play devil’s advocate a bit. Back in MLK’s day, blacks couldn’t be nearly as capiltalistic-tastic as this. They would just have to take what they were given. Now, the King kids get to be just as narrowly focused as mainstream America.
