Where Politics and Rockabilly Become Strangely Fused

When Will Hunting Season on Michigan Jobs End?

Would someone please quit shooting and killing Michigan Jobs!!! PLEASE!!!

h/t Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Michigan) e-mail blast;

You’ll never believe it.

The Democrat Congress just rammed through San Francisco Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s plan to cap carbon dioxide emissions and trade those emissions on Wall Street. This amounts to a MASSIVE NEW NATIONAL ENERGY TAX. Some are calling it the biggest tax increase in American history.

The Detroit News has said “cap and trade” will “sink Michigan.” A Michigan utility company said it will RAISE YOUR ELECTRIC BILL BY $500 A YEAR. The Heritage Foundation has said it will kill 50,000 jobs in Michigan.

Every Democrat Member of Congress from Michigan voted yes on the bill. Every Republican from Michigan voted no. The bill is now being debated in the Senate.

NOW THE UNIONS ARE RUNNING TV ADS IN MY DISTRICT SUPPORTING “CAP AND TRADE.” The same unions who’s members jobs will be decimated by this bill. HELP ME FIGHT BACK! Donate $25, $50 or $100 now!

We are in the worst economy in a generation and people can barely afford to pay their bills. The Democrats‘ solution? Higher bills. Higher gasoline prices, higher natural gas bills, and literally everything you buy will be more expensive.

You haven’t even heard the worse part.

I and other Republicans tried to change the bill. My amendment said the whole “cap and trade” regime had to be scrapped if India and China failed to enact a similar scheme. Democrats said no.

We had amendments to scrap the bill if unemployment went above 15%. Democrats said no. If gasoline prices went above $5 a gallon. Again, Democrats said no.

HELP ME STAND UP TO THE RADICAL ENVIRONMENTALISTS AND UNIONS SUPPORTING CAP AND TRADE.

As always, thank you for your support and friendship. If you haven’t already, I strongly encourage you to contact Michigan’s U.S. Senators to ensure your views on this massive, new energy tax are heard.

Cleaning Out The E-Box/ Part I

My email seems to be overflowing of email that I have planned to post on. Well, many of these items I feel is of importance to my readers. Right now it is just so overstuffed that I can no longer take on the subjects individually. So here’s what’s up. I am going to inform you on a motley crew of subjects in this post and possibly a couple future posts until I can finally reduce my E-box. I shall start from oldest to newest.

Watch lists, guns and government

The secret government “Terrorist Watch List,” reportedly already swelled to more than 1.1 million names, will have an addendum, if gun control advocates in Congress have their way. This new addendum — also to be cloaked in secrecy — would empower the U.S. Attorney General to deny a person the ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights to purchase a firearm.

While it is not surprising that some members of Congress are again using fear of terrorism to implement a gun-control agenda, the openly unconstitutional legislative language proponents are employing is troubling.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) is leading the effort in the Senate, while another well-known gun control advocate — Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) — is directing the House initiative. They have introduced identical bills — the “Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act of 2009.” This proposal would give the attorney general the power to unilaterally and in secret develop a watch list of persons believed to be unworthy of possessing a firearm or any explosive….

Who voted FOR Cap & Tax?

We all knew the Democrats would vote overwhelmingly in favor for the biggest tax in American history — but what about the 8 GOP representatives who voted for it? Glenn has the names and begs America to start asking the question “why?” What’s the point of having Republicans if we can’t count on them to vote against a massive tax scheme, what can we count on them for?

Click on the link in the above paragraph to read all the names. If you from Michigan and are too lazy to click the link I will do you the favor and copy/paste the names of the MI representatives who voted for Cap & Trade.

Michigan
Aye MI-1 Stupak, Bart [D]
Aye MI-5 Kildee, Dale [D]
Aye MI-7 Schauer, Mark [D]
Aye MI-9 Peters, Gary [D]
Aye MI-12 Levin, Sander [D]
Aye MI-13 Kilpatrick, Carolyn [D]
Aye MI-14 Conyers, John [D]
Aye MI-15 Dingell, John [D]

You can thank me later.

Seriously, we need some humor, so how bout this?

Personal Savings in America increasing

Seems that people may be taking Glenn’s advice — to save, store and prepare as personal savings is up 4% in America. It doesn’t take a genius to see the government is destroying our wealth. But, when you are attempting to put money into savings make sure you avoid what this guy did and do NOT deposit $200 along with some cocaine and pot, it may cost you $3000 in bail money. What has Glenn suicidal?
In the liberal bastion of New Jersey they have started hanging little ‘Project Porchlight’ boxes on doorknobs all across the state. Inside is a note that reads:
“Change a bulb and save. A CFL bulb uses up to 75% less energy than old-fashioned bulbs. Save up to $30 in energy costs. Every light bulb change means less pollution, lower cost and reduced demand for electricity which means healthier, cleaner air, environmental and public health benefits. Be the light in your community. This lamp contains Mercury.”
This is paid for with tax dollars. Check out Glenn’s reaction here. ( Transcript, Insider Audio)

Saving Freedom

There is at least one politician who gets it out there — Senator Jim DeMint. He has a new book out, Saving Freedom, which gives an inside look into why we are slipping into socialism and what we can do about it. It’s a great conversation and a great book – both should give you hope that there are still some good apples in Congress. The question is, are there enough to stop the massive government tentacles before it’s too late? ( Transcript, Insider Audio)

NY slips in retroactive tax

Glenn is outraged over the latest tax hike in New York – this one was slipped in the middle of a mammoth health care bill of all things. Not only does it raise taxes — it makes the tax retroactive and they are reaching back to take money earned previously to the passing of the bill. If they can do that, Glenn wonders, does he qualify for state benefits for the times in his life he was broke and didn’t receive any? ( Transcript, Insider Audio)

Slow bleed vs. Slaughter

Glenn talks with best-selling author Brad Thor about his latest book, The Apostle, and about everything going on in the country today. Brad says that while we are getting an onslaught of liberal policies jammed down our throat, he’d actually prefer that to what John McCain would have offered which was still bad, just a slower bleed. Brad prefers the slaughter because in his view, the slaughter will open people’s eyes to the massive government expansion we are residing over. Hopefully he’s right — there’s a lot on the line. Check out Glenn’s conversation with Brad here. ( Transcript, Insider Audio).

9.5%

Another 467,000 jobs were lost in June, so apparently the ’short term’ fix of a $787 billion stimulus didn’t do the trick. Unemployment now stands at 9.5% and there are no signs of it improving anytime soon. Look on the bright side – Obama probably created or saved at least 100,000 jobs last month! If only we could enact like 50 more stimulus bills, we’d create or save millions of jobs! Read the depressing news here.

IOU’s in CA

What would happen if you sent an IOU note to the IRS instead of money? It wouldn’t be pretty. But, it’s A-OK for the state to issue ‘my bad’ slips to the taxpaying citizens of the state. Completely unrelated story – remember the $7 million for the monkey exhibit in the Los Angeles Zoo—the one that didn’t have any monkeys? If California looked hard enough, they shouldn’t have a problem scraping up the money it owes the people. STORY

Cap-and-trade’s a lot of hot air

Americans inclined to support President Obama’s health care overhaul might want to first look at the so-called “cap-and-trade” legislation passed by the House of Representatives with the president’s support.

Its 1,200 pages must rank among the most complex and convoluted pieces of legislation ever devised, making old, Soviet-style government edicts appear streamlined by comparison.

Former President Jimmy Carter, who oversaw the last formal effort Washington undertook to mandate comprehensive energy usage, was a novice compared to the heavy-handed, global-oriented approach by Obama and his Democratic colleagues in the House. Where Carter, a generation ago, was content to turn down the thermostat and lecture the country while wearing a cardigan sweater in front of a warmly glowing fireplace, Obama uses 21st-century communications tools and offers to change not just America’s energy system, but the entire world’s — with taxpayer dollars by the trillions.

Obama, Medvedev: Big Nuclear Cuts in Sight

President Barack Obama has wrapped up his first day in Moscow, but not before both countries announced a tentative agreement to reduce nuclear arms.

Considering that my Windows98 is acting especially slow right now, I believes it is time for me to boom, boom, hey, hey, wiggle on out.

Why Are the States Requiring Hospitals to Take DNA Samples of Newborn Babies?

This here article by Bob Barr regarding hospitals taking DNA samples of babies after birth seems pretty freaky. Like most people, I understand the basic concept of what DNA is. But what I don’t understand is why parents must be forced to give up a personal piece of their own child.

Brave New World of Infant DNA Data-Basing

One of the most exciting moments in life is to witness the birth of a new child. All hell could be breaking loose outside the delivery room, yet all your attention in those moments is focused on the miracle of a new baby being born. Yet in those exhilarating moments, a small event takes place in hospitals across the country that escapes the attention of most every parent, yet is becoming a matter of increasing concern for parents.

Laws in all 50 states require hospitals to collect a sample of every newborn baby’s blood (from a small pin prick to the baby’s foot). The primary purpose is to test for PKU (phenylketonuria, an inherited disease that can result in brain and nerve damage) and other diseases (California, for example, tests for some 76 different conditions).

Were the test itself the end of the matter, few questions would be raised. However, parents and others in a number of states are beginning to question what happens to those millions of infant dried-blood samples — each of which contains the entire genetic history of the infant, as well as DNA information on his or her parents and ancestors — that are collected each year. Who owns those samples? For what purpose(s) can the information be used; and by who? What agencies and commercial entities can access the information? Is parental consent required? Why should the information be retained at all?

Yeah Bob, that is my questioning too.

[....]

The stakes in this data war are high, as researchers and government agencies are realizing the value of such a databank of DNA and other genetic information. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has at least since 2002 been advocating for a national databank, calling such “leftover dried blood spot specimens” a “valuable . . . source for public health surveillance and . . . population-based data on prevalence of genetic variations.” The National Institutes of Health is using $13.5 million in taxpayer dollars to create a national blood sample repository.

These efforts are being aided by federal legislation signed into law by President George W. Bush last year that allows the federal government to screen the DNA of all newborns in the country. The purported justification for this far-reaching, privacy invasive law was the need to have a “national contingency plan” to meet “public health emergencies.”

State governments are moving quickly also to develop regimens for retaining and accessing what Sharon Terry of the Genetic Alliance calls a “national treasure” of data. Michigan, for example, reportedly has set up state-run freezer facilities at a “neonatal biobank” in Detroit.

[....]

With federal law, taxpayer dollars, and otherwise respected agencies like the March of Dimes lined up against them, parents and privacy-advocates trying to stem the tide of infant DNA data basing have their work cut out for them. Let’s hope they are up to the challenge.

This is like something out of 1984.  I don’t even think George Orwell could have predicted anything this creeepy.  Please, PLEASE read the full article here.
