Justice Ginsburg Links Abortion to Population Control

In a recent interview with the New York Times, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg responded to a question about poor women’s access to abortion and the Supreme Court’s 1980 decision upholding a legislative ban on federal funding for abortion.

Following is an excerpt from her answer:

“… Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of. So that Roe was going to be then set up for Medicaid funding for abortion. Which some people felt would risk coercing women into having abortions when they didn’t really want them. But when the court decided (the Medicaid funding case), the case came out the other way. And then I realized that my perception of it had been altogether wrong.”

Bruce Hausknecht, judicial analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said Ginsburg’s response virtually links Roe to the subject of population control.

“It sounds, at minimum, like she’s acknowledging what the abortion lobby has swept under the rug for decades – that the leader of the modern-day abortion movement, Margaret Sanger, was a eugenicist, and that the organization she founded, Planned Parenthood, was set up to help eliminate some of those ‘populations that we don’t want to have too many of,’” Hausknecht said.

Tonite’s Rockabilly After Midnite!  Y’all have been waiting longer than 40 days to hear great Rockabilly, so I am giving y’all the best I can!

I thought I should let you know that I am going to have to bake oatmeal raisin  cookies today.  I will be going to the Charlevoix County Republican Picnic in Boyne City on Sunday.  I know one of the confirmed speakers is Jack Hoogendyk.  I am not going to give any more details about the picnic.  I do not want to be the cause of hippy-lippies showing up to cause a disturbance.  But if you really are a conservative, then I am sure you know someone you can ask for more details.  This may be the last post until Sunday night or Monday morning.  Expect to read something of substance after the picnic.

This announcement has been a long time coming. I think everyone has expected it. Just no one dared to say anything to me, out of fear I would get mad and deny it. I have seen the signs for a long time. I think my readers saw the signs a long time ago, possibly even before I read the signs. Hey, I don’t act like a typical Republican woman. I am unmarried and over 30. For shame! I ignore group think. I move to the beat of my own drum. I figure if I come out and be totally honest I can do a better job at blogging and stick to it. It is rather hard to stay on the internet and express my thoughts when I have this deep dark secret stuck in the back of my head. So here it goes. It’s now or never. OK, I can do this.

A LIBERTARIAN!

OK.  Now that is out of the way.  I feel better.  Do you?

I am still not quite ready to become a card carrying member of the Libertarian Party.  Part of that I suppose is the fact that I live in the Upper Peninsula, also affectionately known as The U.P.  There really is no organization of the Libertarian Party up here.  In actuality though, I think most Yoopers are Libertarian, they just don’t know it.  Another part is that all my life I have considered myself a Republican.  So I need time to ween myself off the party.  Since the Republican party has been around for quite some time there is more organization, if you want to call it that.  There is more opportunity to get involved in grassroots activities.  There is an opportunity to get together with like minded Conservatives who think that the only alternative is the Republican Party.  But together like minds can get together and realize there is a better alternative, either organize to become Libertarians or change the Republican Party back to it’s Conservative core from within.

During my recent trip to “Happy Camp” I was doing some reflecting.  I was also keeping up with the news and what Obama and his minions are doing to ruining this once great free country.  As I had said previously that I was reading The Conscience of a Conservative by Barry Goldwater.  I also said that I would do a book report of sorts on the book.  Sorry I did not follow through on that thought.  I will get to a book report.  They will be dispersed within multiple posts.  During part of my trip to “Happy Camp” I had become bed ridden for about a week or so.  I couldn’t do nothing but sit and watch TV.  That was rather boring.  I stared at my bookshelf.  I decided to finish the Barry Goldwater book.  I also decided to read the George Orwell books, Animal Farm and 1984, that came with my Amazon.com order.  Even though Animal Farm was mainly a satire on Communism, I could see many a similarity to the current political situation in the U.S.  And I am talking both parties!  1984 was quite freaky.  Even though Mr. Orwell set the book in England, he was very prophetic, concerning both countries.  Perhaps it is over dramatic to compare modern times to the incidents in the book.  But it seems as though slowly but surely, we are headed in that direction.  Currently, I am reading Ted, White and Blue by Ted Nugent.  Oh too good!  I will get into my thoughts on all books above, soon enough.

I want to get caught up on some of the things that have been going on since my most recent hiatus.  General Motors is now Government Motors.  This whole “Cap and Trade” debacle.  Because of “Cap and Trade,” I may be stuck in my house for the rest of my life.  Obama wants to implement a “Green Police” who will walk through a person’s house before they are allowed to sell it, to make sure it is up to the gubmint’s  “green standard.”  Well I am sorry, but my house was built as a summer cottage in 1930.  I do not think that it will stand up to Obama’s green standard and I am just barely getting by, so I can not afford to “green up” up my house.

Some Senator Ensign fella admitted to adultery.  But the biggest, most recent adultery announcement is South Carolina Gubner Mark Sanford suffers from JFK syndrome.  That kinda falls into one of the similarities that I can see between modern politics and Animal Farm.  It’s one of the things that those of us in the barnyard can’t do, but the privileged pigs living in the Jones’ farm house are allowed to do.

Sarah Palin resigned as governor of Alaska.  At first I was shocked.  I was rather worried it was a bad move for her.  But now, I think it is the best thing for her, her political career, the people of Alaska, her supporters and/or conservative libertarian minded Americans.  What does the future hold for Mrs. Palin?  I don’t know.  But I think it can only go up from here.  I will keep following that.

Even though I have come out as a Libertarian, I still plan on attending the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference on beautiful Mackinac Island.  Would I still be attending if I did not live so close to the island?  Prolly not.  Since I have not had a vacation in such a long time, I will be staying on the island.  Got my hotel reservations made.  Paying way more than I intended.   But it will be worth it.  It really is pain to stay in St. Ignace and traverse back and forth on the ferry.  I mean there are parties that don’t start until just before the last boat leaves the island.  And well that just ain’t no fun to know there are parties that I can not attend due to time constraints.  I will also bring my bike to the island and just take a ride around the island to clear my little mind out.  So if you see me there, buy me a beer.  Just a warning, it won’t get you no further than a conversation.

Oh, I guess I heard that Michael Jackson passed away.  Did any of you hear about this, or is it news to you?  Even after the memorial, CNN is acting like the Michael Jackson channel.  Ugh!  FOX News has made a few mentions, but they have been sticking to the news, at least lately.  I guess CNN doesn’t want it’s liberal viewers to know the truth about what “The Great Messiah” is really up to.  So it’s a nice little distraction, I suppose.

There are probly way more things I have left out, but there are some dishes in the sink that are screaming, “Wash me!”

Now that I am back in the saddle again, I figure that the vid I should post for Rockabilly After Midnite (yes, I know Aerosmith is Classic Rock) is “Back in the Saddle.”  Only fitting .

Wow, has it been this long since I have been away?  I will update this blog and let y’all know about my thoughts since I have been away.  But first, I have to tell something very important.  Okay, well theCL from Michigan Blogger has awaken me from my apathy by bestowing upon me The Honest Scrap Award.  I feel pretty oh so pretty…  Oh, sorry, I just feel so special I had to burst into song!

Hmm… What do I want to share with y’all what you don’t already know ’bout me?

1. My real haircolor is … Red is all you need to know!
2. I love kitty cats.
3. In my adult life I have given all my cats redneck/rockabilly names.  One cat was named Bo after Bo Duke from The Dukes of Hazzard.  Then I had a polydactal (sp?) cat.    That means he had extra toes.  So I had to name him Fonzie, cause he always looked like his paws had it’s thumb sticking out like Fonzie used to when he would say “Aaayyy!”  I also was given a cat I named Chevy, just because.  Now I have a female cat named Bobbie.  She looks, and acts  like a little bobcat.  Her buddy, or nemesis (not sure which) was already named Joe when he was given to me
4. This is harder than I thought, hmm.  When I was in elementary school I had huge crushes on Michael Jackson  and Patrick Swayze.  I had pin-up pictures from teen beat on my wall of both and would kiss them every night.
5. More about when I was little… My favorite color was purple.  So I had my  bedroom painted purple and I also had a bedspread and curtain set with purple lilacs.
6. My first car was a 1988 Chevy Berretta.  Her name was “Chevy Baby.”  She was two-tone silver and charcoal with maroon interior.
7. I always wanted a 1976 Chevy Monte Carlo, painted black, black landau top, and maroon interior.
8. More?  My first job was at Hardee’s in Durand, Michigan.
9. I like jazz and blues music, besides Rockabilly.
10. I have leopard print fetish.

  Sorry I have been away so long.  I am still working on genealogy stuff.  Right now, I feel like that Sixth Sense kid, “I see dead people.”  But I thought I would stop in to update the blog.  Not feeling like writing anything heavy about politics.   Enjoy this little story about a cute kitty that has grown wings.

I just watched this video on Republicans take on energy. 

GOP pushes for energy independence

May 23: Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., discusses America’s dependence on foreign oil and argues that there is ‘enough oil shale in the Rocky Mountain West alone to power America for the next hundred years.’

Senator John Barrasso (R) (Wyoming) is talking about drilling domestically. I agree with that. But here is my problem. He is talking into the camera with a patronizing tone. Reminds me of those 16 milimeter films that the teacher used to play on fun Fridays when I was in first grade. Look, I don’t give a rats ass about stupid political parties. I just care about who has the right answers and vote for them. If Republicans want to get their messages through, they need to discard patronizing tones. Grown-up adults ignore tones that sound like they are being talked to like little children. I thought Republicans learned their lesson after the Bobby Jindal Romper Room response to Barack Obama’s address to Congress a few months back. Look “Uncle Barrasso,” I agree with you but don’t treat me like I am stupid!  Golly gee boys and girls, if Republicans are going to play Sesame Street, at least use puppets to entertain us.
